- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/4 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
Sausage Patties:
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried sage
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
Eggs:
- 4 large eggs
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Cheese:
- 4 slices of sharp cheddar cheese
Instructions:
Maple Syrup Crystals:
- In a small saucepan, heat maple syrup and granulated sugar over medium heat until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture reaches 260°F (127°C) on a candy thermometer, the hard-ball stage.
- Carefully pour the mixture onto a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Let cool and harden.
- Break the hardened maple syrup mixture into small crystals. Set aside.
Pancake Buns:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the maple syrup crystals.
- Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and grease with a thin layer of butter or cooking spray.
- Pour 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake bun onto the skillet. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook until golden brown.
- Set aside and keep warm.
Sausage Patties:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork with all the spices listed under sausage patties. Mix well.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into round patties.
- Cook patties in a skillet over medium heat for 4-5 minutes per side, or until fully cooked. Set aside and keep warm.
Eggs:
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and grease lightly.
- Crack an egg into a small bowl without breaking the yolk, then gently slide it into the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the whites are set but the yolk is still runny. Season with salt and pepper.
Assembly:
- Place a sausage patty on the bottom half of a pancake bun.
- Add a slice of sharp cheddar cheese on top of the sausage.
- Carefully place a cooked egg on top of the cheese.
- Top with another pancake bun.
- Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make more McGriddles.
